Many people in the LGBTQIA+ community face challenges with substance (ab)use and mental health. We are faced with the consumption of alcohol and drugs almost everywhere we go and that can be confronting.
Choosing to live without substances takes a lot of bravery, no matter why you make that choice. It means facing life with courage, being your true self, and putting your well-being and dreams first instead of following what society expects.
This choice means that you are putting yourself in first place and that is impressive, but it can be tough. You might feel disconnected from your community and friends, worry about being accepted, feel alone, and face judgment.
